Spring? Where Oh Where Art Thou?

Well, the spring flowers were lovely, but have been buried by snow this week.  If you look at my last post, you will see the flowers.  This is what has been covering them:

We ended up with about 12 inches.  It's been a long time since I have seen that much snow here at one time.
It was beautiful, especially at night.

I've finished my rag quilts and am moving on to other projects--a cute wall hanging pattern I found in Quiltmaker that I will be showing later when it is finished.  Then, I need to get back to my daughter, Anna's, quilt.  It is a difficult project so somewhat intimidating.  It will be fine once I get back into it.  I will post pictures as I finish those beautiful blocks.

I have been enjoying the beautiful embroidery projects on the blog hop from www.sewwequilt.com.  Visit tht site to get a listing of those involved.  I am greatly impressed with all of the wonderful talent out there.

The temperature  is warming up--in the 40's yesterday and today, so the snow is melting.  A good Samaritin plowed out half of our long lane Monday evening so we were able to get out of our drive since we keep our mini-van parked down farther from our house.  Thank you to whomever plowed us out!

Christmas in March and Spring Flowers

One of my former high school classmates, an fb friend, contacted me that she needed a new home for fabric.  Of course, I'm always ready to adopt any new fabric to add to my stash.  I met up with her yesterday--she now lives in Texas instead of Illinois, and look what I got--washed and folded!

Now, what do I make?  We are making purses at quilt club this month, so I think I should find some appropriate fabric in this new addition to my stash.  Thank you, Kathleen, for the beautiful fabric.

I made a table runner in appreciation, but I forgot to take a picture!  I'll be making one for me like it soon, so I will post a picture then.  In the meantime, baby showers (3) coming up plus a baby gift for a best friend's grandbaby, so I am making rag quilts.  They are fast, fun, and flannel has been on sale at a great price.
I need to make a quick trip to JoAnn's to pick up enough flannel for one more!

In the meantime, the spring flowers are beginning to bloom.  I need to get these rag quilts done so that I can get outside to work.

Have a great week and Happy Quilting!

Just Quilt It (You are here.)

I was an avid reader growing up, and I loved the Nancy Drew mysteries.  I knew I wanted to be part of this hop when it was first announced.  My project is a notebook cover, and I loved the way it turned out!

I purchased a charm pack for this project.  I sewed 2 together to make the row of books at the top.  I used the exploding pineapple pattern for the bottom--we had just learned this technique at my quilt club.

Inside, I added a pocket, using the book print, and included a pen and, of course, a magnifying glass for Nancy Drew adventures.

I found a nice black in my stash to use for the back, and used FMQ similar to what I did on the inside cover.

What is the clue?

I wanted to have a clue in my project, but did you find it?  I made this notebook cover for my daughter.  She has her own library collection and is working on a Master's in Library Science at the University of IL.

This is my daughter at Christmas.

If you look closely, you can find her name in the magnifying glasses in all 4 yellow triangles.

Her name is Anna.

I had lots of fun doing this project.  Thanks for stopping by to visit my blog!  I hope you will come back.  Now, for a give-away.  I have a Thimbleberries pattern to give away.  It is entitled "Holiday Bouquet". Please leave a comment, be a follower if you like, and make certain that I have your e-mail so that I can notify you.

Enjoy the rest of the hop!  It has certainly contained lots of interesting  mysteries!

Quiltin' Away at a Quilt Retreat!

It has been a great weekend, quilting in Danville, IL.  These are my friends from quilt club--me, Betty Sue, Rosie, Carol, and Denise.   We are spending the weekend working on UFO's or other new projects.  I have made another whale wall hanging, worked on mugrugs for my sister's Christian Women's Retreat, worked on a wall hanging, and made a rag quilt for my husband.  Sew much fun!  It is great to sew all day, all evening, and into the night on what ever we wanted--sharing ideas and patterns with friends and with others using the retreat facilities.  A store on site is a great plus.

This is a great facility with lots of room to work, kitchens to use with refrigerator room for each group, cutting tables, irons and ironing boards, design walls, and quilts hanging all over!

My friends made snap purses using metal tape measures.  They are lots of fun.  I made some last year, but this year I was busy working on my rag quilt.

Carol and Denise worked on a  spiral table runner.

In the evenings, we relaxed with a bottle of wine.

This is a great yearly event--sew much fun--sew much to sew--such good friends!
