I wanted to share my fall "Blessings" door hanging. My sister, Carol, is a resident at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. I try to make seasonal door hangings for her. This one was inspired by Bluprint 's free pumpkin pattern. However, the block was too small. I enlarged it, and added the letters and the blackbird. I also used strips of varying widths as I think that adds interest to it. Thanks for stopping by!</div>

I've done a variety of quilting this month. We started table runners with strings in quilt club last month. I really enjoyed this project. Most members used white for a background, but I really loved this green. The quilting was done on my BabyLoc Tiara quilting machine. I think I will make more of these.<br />

A few months ago my quilt club made landscape quilts. I had made a couple before, so I chose to make a sunset for my project. We all chose different scenes using the same technique.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC0DXXTTWkqEN249Kpwj7X-QMWCZxrczuZ0Vmv_xuXTNREjH7bgITKC-LRdVQpOkp1r0USTOYJEdAKnNP_t5e-t6pmVm7s_GylHRVtp1y9okrzcoMVzTkfQStEy8HmKBc4igeLYU4qx0k/s1600/IMG_5443.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC0DXXTTWkqEN249Kpwj7X-QMWCZxrczuZ0Vmv_xuXTNREjH7bgITKC-LRdVQpOkp1r0USTOYJEdAKnNP_t5e-t6pmVm7s_GylHRVtp1y9okrzcoMVzTkfQStEy8HmKBc4igeLYU4qx0k/s320/IMG_5443.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I was pleased with the finished project.<br />
<br />
<br />
This is my first landscape Quilt. It was made for a blog hop. At the time, my husband and I were babysitting for out granddaughters in Colorado Springs. The inspiration for the quilt came from the beautiful aspen trees we saw taking the cograil up Pikes Peak.<br />

These are all variations of the Missouri Star Quilt Company's row by row from a couple of years ago. I made them this year for friends, two who were moving back to places they used to live and one for a 50th wedding anniversary gift. I must not have taken a picture of the one I made for a wedding gift.</div>

I haven't posted in some time, but my hope is to get back into posting the things I make. Today, however, I would like to share a picture of my family. We celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary in November with all of our children, gathering in southern Illinois. We had a great week with our 3 children and their families. I am so thankful that they took the time to gather with us to celebrate.</div>

Hi Quilter Friends!<br />
<br />
I feel like I have gotten much accomplished these past 2 months, and it is a good thing, because spring is just around the corner.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRIh7DDWn6wi29GlpwmstyoXcHGPxomvpX6Wed3HqncuksgEYBz7nqJBWSA2jv3onsvj5RWfl7J0JGL92bt3_1fw1r3TaNLZL_cBrQ9F2jz6JNUpIrenzMVw0hiwBNg4bjuwqQ8h0VtR0/s1600/IMG_1401.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="498" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRIh7DDWn6wi29GlpwmstyoXcHGPxomvpX6Wed3HqncuksgEYBz7nqJBWSA2jv3onsvj5RWfl7J0JGL92bt3_1fw1r3TaNLZL_cBrQ9F2jz6JNUpIrenzMVw0hiwBNg4bjuwqQ8h0VtR0/s640/IMG_1401.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
These are blooming all over my yard. I love it when the snowdrops bloom.<br />
<br />
My first January project was this bluebell wall hanging for my oldest son, Josh. He lives in Albuquerque and misses our field of bluebells in the spring. This was his birthday gift.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEish6a998Xce7qTCxiJhxsdAPRcQo-Dn7FSffF-p6enigJFT00PgdDn6bt5Mi_nybUa6jR-svlJ2KGoFJ-3aLBxzvWvRJR9lLCM6ARZTKNxjzarlz1uZQey4JE_MO-nUGUwLv57Wk6D56U/s1600/IMG_1078.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEish6a998Xce7qTCxiJhxsdAPRcQo-Dn7FSffF-p6enigJFT00PgdDn6bt5Mi_nybUa6jR-svlJ2KGoFJ-3aLBxzvWvRJR9lLCM6ARZTKNxjzarlz1uZQey4JE_MO-nUGUwLv57Wk6D56U/s640/IMG_1078.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Next, I finished a queen-size quilt for my granddaughter, Julia. Her 14th birthday was also in January. She loves owls. The square in a square blocks are made using a Kona jelly roll.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I am just learning free-motion quilting, so this large of a quilt was a challenge. I have been signing most of my quilts like this, making a square, folding it into a triangle, adding some stabilizer and signing using my Janome 7700. Then, placing it in the corner of the back of my quilt before I add the binding.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I have also been making kids quilts:<br />

Actually, the first two are quillows, quilts that fold up, tuck into the pocket on the back and form a pillow.<br />

This one is for Adelyn. Her Grandmother is a friend of mine and is in my quilt club. Adelyn will be going to Mayo Clinic in May, and I wanted her to have something bright and cheery to take along with her.<br />

I wish I knew the name of this fabric. The little girls are so cute--I would make it again. <br />
<br />
I also made one for Parker, her little brother. I didn't want him to feel left out. What little boy doesn't love super heroes?<br />

The quilting was good practice using my Tiarra. I am getting the knack as to setting the tension and am enjoying the free-motion quilting I can do with it.<br />

I have one more baby quilt to make for this spring--for a great nephew. I think I am going to have to purchase the fabrics for that one! I hope you have had a great time quilting this winter also. Until, next time!</div>

Welcome to my blog. Thanks, Carol, for giving us this opportunity to share cookie recipes with others. I know I have seen some great recipes this week that I want to try!<br />
<br />
It was a great time for me to do a virtual cookie share. My two beautiful granddaughters were here the entire week before Thanksgiving. We have been making lots of candy, cookies, noodles, and pies. I have taught them well. They are 13 and 10, and they can make pies and noodles by them-selves, not to mention the cookies and candy.<br />
<br />
The first cookies we made were spritz cookies, a recipe my mom used to make. She would "hide" them in the upstairs bedroom of our old farmhouse--the room we didn't use in the winter because it was too cold. We would sneak in and sample them long before Christmas. They are made with a cookie gun. We used an old metal one when we were growing up. Now, the girls and I use a Pampered Chef gun.<br />

SPRITZ COOKIES</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1 lb. butter 1 1/4 cups sugar</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2 eggs 1 tsp. baking powder</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4 1/2 cups flour 1 tsp. vanilla</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Cream butter (be sure to use real butter) and sugar. Add unbeaten eggs. Combine flour and baking powder. Add flour mix and vanilla. Divide the cookie dough into 2 parts and swirl green coloring into half of the dough and red coloring into the 2nd half. Press with a cookie press onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I asked Julia and Lauren to bring a recipe to share, also. They chose jello cookies that their Grandma, Carolyn Ogren, has been making since their mother was a child. They are made with lime or raspberry jello. Make 2 batches if you want colorful red and green cookies. We used lime jello.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
JELLO COOKIES</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3/4 cup butter, softened 1 tsp. vanilla</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1/2 cup sugar 2 1/2 cups flour</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1 3-oz. package jello 1 tsp. baking powder</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2 eggs 1 tsp. salt</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix thoroughly butter, sugar, jello, eggs, and vanilla. Blend in dry ingredients. Roll dough into 3/4 inch balls. Place 3 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet; flatten each with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar. (We use a glass with a design imprinted in the bottom so that there is a design on the cookies.) Bake 6-8 minutes. Makes about 4 dozen.</div>

We have been busy in February! I didn't have nearly as much time to quilt this month. Our daughter, Anna, lives in New Orleans and wanted us to see some of the Mardi Gras festivities. We were able to go and see 2 great parades--Muses and Endymion.<br />

The floats were fabulous! We had a great time. Both parades were very family-friendly. </div>

It was hard not to get in the excitement--people on the floats were throwing beads, footballs, frisbees, cozies, more beads, little basketballs, cups, and more beads. </div>

When we left NOLA, we met friends, Terry and Sue, at St. George Island in Florida. We rented a large house a block off of the beach. Sue's brother, Dan, and his partner, Howard, were there for part of the week. </div>

Then, we went to Tallahassee for a few days to visit with Terry and Sue's son's family, Jonathan, Erica, Norah, and Clara. We went to <span style="background-color: white; color: #545454; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: x-small; font-weight: bold; line-height: 18.2000007629395px;">Wakulla Springs and went on a swamp tour. We really enjoyed the birds and the alligators.</span></div>

We came home to frozen pipes in our well pit, but that has now been fixed. It was good to get home between storms. We really enjoy being back in our own bed after 2 weeks of travel.</div>

I did manage to get some quilting done this month. I finished Anna's 4th library quilt before we went, so I was able to take this one to her. It is actually the logo for her charter group, Firstline. The words are their values.</div>

After returning to Illinois, I wanted to make a tote for Anna. She picked out the material at Mes Amis in NOLA. It is a great quilt shop--tons of fun fabrics.<br />

January, like December, has been a busy month for quilting. It all started when my daughter, Anna, asked me to make little purses for her to throw from her Mardi Gras float--anywhere from 10 to 30. I took the pattern we had used for tie purses at my quilt club, cut it down, and made 27 Mardi Gras purses, complete with bead handles. I put "bling" on a couple of them, and sent them on to NOLA so that Anna could "bling" the rest. Then, I made 2 more for my friend's, Marlene's, granddaughters. They were fun and quick!<br />

This month in quilt club, we made reversible table runners. My friend, Rosie, is a great teacher and a great quilter. This is my finished project, and I love it. When you finish, it is all quilted and reversible.<br />

<br />
My husband is such a blessing. When I mentioned that carrying 2 laptops in a backpack was pretty heavy, he ordered me an ipad. Of course, the ipad needed a cover for protection. I used the same fabrics I had used for quilt club to make a reversible table runner. I used the pinks, blues, and yellows. After I got my ipad, my husband really loved it, and he ordered one for him--another cover!<br />
This book fabric suited him much more than my pinks, and blues, and yellows.<br />

Very good friends of ours, Brian and Lori, adopted a sweet baby girl, Nora. I had been working on a quilt for her before Christmas, and I was finally able to finish it. I love these adorable little girl fabrics!<br />

<br />
I'm taking a Craftsy quilt class by Ann Petersen on How to Quilt Big Projects on a small machine. She totally bastes her quilts with a spray baste. Then, she irons her quilt to "set" the spray. I put 2 ironing boards together to have a long enough surface to iron this quilt. It worked really well, and I will definitely do it again for my next quilt. (I purchased an extra ironing board for $1 at the thrift store.)<br />

Winter is really a great time to sew. I've got lots of other projects in mind. Next, library quilt number 4 for Anna's libraries in NOLA and an ipad cover for my sister, Carol. Then, who knows what great quilting adventure will be next. <br />
<br />
<br />
Thanks for taking time to read my blog and see what all have been in the works at my house this month. I hope you had a great month quilting, too!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
In April, I posted a picture of the first library quilt I made for my daughter. Since then, I have completed 2 more quilts. That leaves 2 more to go--she has 5 school libraries. I plan on starting on the 4th this month. Here, I am including pictures of the 2nd and 3rd quilts I made for Anna.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
"Grab a Book and Grow" came about after seeing a picture of a tree with books for leaves. I made these books 3-dimensional. It was lots of fun looking for appropriate fabric for children's books. I used a leaf pattern to free-motion quilt the borders.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Next, I found a poster of a boy reading a book, and all kinds of objects were just jumping out of the book. It was really fun to turn into this quilt. I have plans to make another one of these some day. I think it is my favorite, so far.<br />

I'm not very good with faces, but I loved this concept. I hope you enjoy these.<br />

Since my New Year's resolution is to post what I am making, I thought I would go back and post a couple of birthday gifts that I made this past fall. The first is a log cabin table runner made for my daughter-in-law, Susan, in September. It was made from a kit, and I loved the fabrics.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx2JXU7UhoS4wUrJJ-D0RaEOruC3GCN91yreYLOs6IMIi473zzX70vaG6TdgAbAQ4tP-PFie0KesNgVBHPMPRYsOr4uP7R2kZWsB9m7ONLE4w-5L6S7v-pEYus3G0APlN8xvkg9sMWDfE/s1600/IMG_8015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx2JXU7UhoS4wUrJJ-D0RaEOruC3GCN91yreYLOs6IMIi473zzX70vaG6TdgAbAQ4tP-PFie0KesNgVBHPMPRYsOr4uP7R2kZWsB9m7ONLE4w-5L6S7v-pEYus3G0APlN8xvkg9sMWDfE/s1600/IMG_8015.JPG" height="254" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I also made a wall hanging for my granddaughter, Lauren. She loves hummingbirds.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I really enjoy machine applique. I enjoy hand applique, as well, but those wings would be really difficult if I was doing needle-turn. I was very pleased with the outcome.</div>

I love making Christmas gifts for friends and family. I made several this year. I purchased a quilt pattern a few years ago, and these snowmen were across the top of it. I thought they would make a really cute tablerunner--and they did.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwR5heY-bXUsEf0l6rkcmXQRuw4fixXVWQiUKHl0TKjrC-Dc0bCtoP0A-qydyWsGzk6Y8vhdg6brxruq0NxtRj3qKAeV_I8U3kslid_fIFATC2Qeu4PvPp2H3ob0x6g2WiR6zD2qDBfA0/s1600/IMG_8485.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwR5heY-bXUsEf0l6rkcmXQRuw4fixXVWQiUKHl0TKjrC-Dc0bCtoP0A-qydyWsGzk6Y8vhdg6brxruq0NxtRj3qKAeV_I8U3kslid_fIFATC2Qeu4PvPp2H3ob0x6g2WiR6zD2qDBfA0/s1600/IMG_8485.JPG" height="222" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I made this for our pastor, Tim Laird, and his wife, Betty Sue. They do so much for our church and are a great addition to our community. Betty Sue and I have become good friends.<br />
<br />
Ladies, don't forget to sign your gifts. It is important to document our work. This is the back of Tim and Betty Sue's gift.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijPeEWbsiPEmXsReU0D8pmanao58b1NEJPiGeYY1laK4iZBfstePQ-aLxbUnAXh9C771EWOrncg-K0x_PL3oMfJeSKgMlxAh0ByzyD15QyBRcwE31K4rEvkOQfI6DOJfyfNRj-G69znbs/s1600/IMG_8486.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijPeEWbsiPEmXsReU0D8pmanao58b1NEJPiGeYY1laK4iZBfstePQ-aLxbUnAXh9C771EWOrncg-K0x_PL3oMfJeSKgMlxAh0ByzyD15QyBRcwE31K4rEvkOQfI6DOJfyfNRj-G69znbs/s1600/IMG_8486.JPG" height="228" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I taught a lesson at our quilt club on this beautiful poinsettia wall hanging. I made 3 for gifts and one for a benefit last year. This year, I made one for myself and one for one of my very best friends, Sue. I forgot to take a picture of Sue's (oops!), but I did take a picture of mine. They are the same except I used a different border for Sue's. I made one of these for Tim and Betty Sue last Christmas.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRIRbT3HDABHaF2L7hnagtbL16lqZEMHHzfWCOrXB2n1ik37WXGKQW4UHgz3hOsyxatcZMgRxgq9i3UmIjKz8Kj3D0asJ4gL4YCotC9JEnohDvnuRa1fHkRJSpddosYikeFx_wjgO9u5Q/s1600/IMG_8739.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRIRbT3HDABHaF2L7hnagtbL16lqZEMHHzfWCOrXB2n1ik37WXGKQW4UHgz3hOsyxatcZMgRxgq9i3UmIjKz8Kj3D0asJ4gL4YCotC9JEnohDvnuRa1fHkRJSpddosYikeFx_wjgO9u5Q/s1600/IMG_8739.JPG" height="400" width="313" /></a></div>
<br />
I like the 3-d effect of the red and green leaves. They are made by sewing front and back together, right sides together, making a slit in the back, and turning them. A simple seam to sew them onto the background gives them the 3-d effect, along with some red beads.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWNaSIMQm9rXtWtLsYsWt_RS9lgbRYQGvZkwr0qAw_o6NfqFq-x5tkmlvewtOccKlFMbgIpyM7yCKWh4_EWwOwdyf_PoxAv46k-D2wp53HgPWYU98Nr9_mKN9iX7dRnwq8xuL9EcaePOY/s1600/IMG_8741.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWNaSIMQm9rXtWtLsYsWt_RS9lgbRYQGvZkwr0qAw_o6NfqFq-x5tkmlvewtOccKlFMbgIpyM7yCKWh4_EWwOwdyf_PoxAv46k-D2wp53HgPWYU98Nr9_mKN9iX7dRnwq8xuL9EcaePOY/s1600/IMG_8741.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Another lesson this year at quilt club was taught by my friend, Norma. She showed us how to make purses from neckties. It is surprising just how much fabric is in one tie. I decided to use my husband's ties to make purses for my 2 granddaughters and my daughter, Anna. I also used my father's tie to make one for my daughter. Then, I e-mailed my 2 daughter-in-laws' fathers and asked for ties from them. My daughter-in-laws, Susan and Jae, were surprised to get gifts made from their father's ties. I was able to put pins of mine on the ties made from my husband's ties and a pin of my mother's on my dad's tie for Anna.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXOijUoWLKky3pwkf9L0EmVi6Fb0l8zdbdltEzXtjKRf1ZW782YfaWAv7VQ0SJYCwLjlcpkDAWVgWfYIopLRd1W-QcDHde7QpaerKY1K4xKLNFTatrC_P9xyOS0LTfYzTuqpkN7givPfg/s1600/IMG_8480.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXOijUoWLKky3pwkf9L0EmVi6Fb0l8zdbdltEzXtjKRf1ZW782YfaWAv7VQ0SJYCwLjlcpkDAWVgWfYIopLRd1W-QcDHde7QpaerKY1K4xKLNFTatrC_P9xyOS0LTfYzTuqpkN7givPfg/s1600/IMG_8480.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The Bugs Bunny ties were my husband's, and the purses were for my granddaughters, Julia and Lauren. The sunflower purse was from my husband's tie for my daughter, Anna. The top left purse was made for Susan, my daughter-in-law. The gold striped tie was made for my daughter-in-law, Jae. I remember my dad wearing the blue and brown striped tie. I'm sure Anna appreciates it and my mother's bumble bee pin. I think they will be great memory pieces through the years.<br />
<br />
These are my gifts for this Christmas. They were lots of fun to make. I love giving gifts that I have made and hope everyone enjoyed receiving them!</div>

<br />
<br />
My previous post showed the Mardi Gras purses I made for my daughter, Anna, to throw from her float this year. Here are the instructions for making this simple, little purse:<br />
<br />
2 squares 8 1/2" X 6" for purse<br />
2 squares 7 1/2" X 6" for lining<br />
2 squares 7 1/2" X 6" lightweight fusible interfacing<br />
1 button<br />
24" to 30" cording, ribbon, or beads for handles<br />
<br />
Cut a piece of paper (I used cardstock) 7 1/2" X 6" for a pattern. Round off the bottom 2 corners.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvKbEvKYT97ln6sUi-6_8KySIjIx0NDzR_Ud64TicQ6KtCbY_bfY7dZqmoExrE3HvNSVdf-nOPxis-Nr0dJESeS9j1D3f17xLL8K1LLUkXiTdZa2xSz2f8RqxupNkVFJTd_pMVReh41ow/s1600/IMG_8736.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvKbEvKYT97ln6sUi-6_8KySIjIx0NDzR_Ud64TicQ6KtCbY_bfY7dZqmoExrE3HvNSVdf-nOPxis-Nr0dJESeS9j1D3f17xLL8K1LLUkXiTdZa2xSz2f8RqxupNkVFJTd_pMVReh41ow/s1600/IMG_8736.JPG" height="263" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Use this pattern to trim squares for the purse, lining, and interfacing. Save the extra 1" piece from the purse fabric to make a loop for the button. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdVynqSfmb_NwiE_QqgoCZzP_XPOBw6PLiy9osiNbUDWkEBgHx84O3RCuzjL2Cqd831yT3T_pvpeq7jzR_jsRWKDtqluNNlJ4y3V_NCvQBXPrcSqUqrwTS1cBeQZ_04p4zSb-8XpcVg_o/s1600/IMG_8738.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdVynqSfmb_NwiE_QqgoCZzP_XPOBw6PLiy9osiNbUDWkEBgHx84O3RCuzjL2Cqd831yT3T_pvpeq7jzR_jsRWKDtqluNNlJ4y3V_NCvQBXPrcSqUqrwTS1cBeQZ_04p4zSb-8XpcVg_o/s1600/IMG_8738.JPG" height="248" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Fuse interfacing to wrong side of purse fabric. Sew around the 3 sides, right sides together, leaving the top open, using 1/4" seam allowance. Clip curves. (I use my pinking shears.) Turn purse right side out.<br />
<br />
Sew cording or ribbon straps to (outside) side seams...cording will hang out below the bottom of the purse when placed in the lining. Top of strap goes on outside of purse with end standing up. If you are using beads, wait until purse is completed and hand sew to the inside of seams.<br />
<br />
Sew around the lining fabric, right sides together, leaving the top open AND about 2" on the bottom center. (This is the opening for turning your purse.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrhTS5R0p8n9CcLl9ZxjyxxaKaWxY_kjwPj9QtGQ3rur8350oLq7wlA1NpyZ0vfi6syNKkV5IfyaO8JuraanH5U63PDH_EZAmdLLd8Hppe46Kcji33FSrbDnzMMhy2EvDxYxCnmpvBhPQ/s1600/IMG_8737.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrhTS5R0p8n9CcLl9ZxjyxxaKaWxY_kjwPj9QtGQ3rur8350oLq7wlA1NpyZ0vfi6syNKkV5IfyaO8JuraanH5U63PDH_EZAmdLLd8Hppe46Kcji33FSrbDnzMMhy2EvDxYxCnmpvBhPQ/s1600/IMG_8737.JPG" height="244" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Take the extra 1" of purse fabric and fold both long sides into the center. Fold in half and stitch lengthwise. Form a loop from this fabric.<br />
<br />
Place the purse inside the lining (right sides together) and pull the purse handles through the opening at the bottom. <br />
<br />
Match and pin the side seams, place loop at center of back of purse (loop down inside of purse), then sew all the way around the top of the purse.<br />
<br />
Pull the handles and outside of purse through the opening at the bottom of the lining. Stitch the opening closed. Push lining inside of purse. Press around the top of the purse and top-stitch.<br />
<br />
Sew on button.<br />
<br />
Glue on gemstones or sequins to give it some "bling" or leave it plain.<br />
<br />
Note: A simpler way to add the handles would be to simply stitch inside the purse along the side seams when the purse has been completed. This is what I had to do with the beads, but it would also work with the cording or ribbon if you aren't looking for as finished a product. You could also use velcro in place of the button and loop.<br />
<br />
<br />

My New Year's Resolution is to post everything I make this year, documenting with pictures so that I have a good record. (I wanted to make my friend, Sue, a wall hanging for Christmas and couldn't remember if I made one for her last year.) Time to keep better records if my memory is going. LOL<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I started the year off making Mardi Gras purses for my daughter, Anna. She will be riding on one of the Mardi Gras floats this year and wanted purses to throw from the float.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://scontent-b-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/10437688_10101086527666841_607608531509946598_n.jpg?oh=3f380b3a72582a48b6f9d8584942e118&oe=5525D8A6" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://scontent-b-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/10437688_10101086527666841_607608531509946598_n.jpg?oh=3f380b3a72582a48b6f9d8584942e118&oe=5525D8A6" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A friend of mine, Denice, suggested using beads as handles for the purses, and it worked perfectly. I used a pattern for tie purses that we had made in my quilt club this past year, and cut it down to a nice size for tossing. Now, they are ready to ship off to Anna to add a little "bling"--gemstones and/or sequins to dress them up.<br />

My daughter has taken on quite a task this past year. She was hired to create 5 libraries for 5 schools in a charter group. This past year, she has purchased 18,000 books, cataloged them, bar-coded them and got them in libraries. Now, she wants to put a little "wow" in her libraries. Being a quilter, the best way I know to "wow" is to create library quilts. I scoured the internet looking for ideas. I have completed the first one and will take it to her this weekend. I can't wait to share it with her.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKIPQkUhklEEOIdCuRdFUUdN8W4wfDRMVw0PhxUGXrebY8f0WGYROELCn_CH3HUuSsbGlJfEY8L79lgwTGOYyee5q2_d74C7aOY7DZoOMiA1_YRQXjuH4HTmzwMxrzVCP6dfyfjnF4nCo/s1600/IMG_6781.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKIPQkUhklEEOIdCuRdFUUdN8W4wfDRMVw0PhxUGXrebY8f0WGYROELCn_CH3HUuSsbGlJfEY8L79lgwTGOYyee5q2_d74C7aOY7DZoOMiA1_YRQXjuH4HTmzwMxrzVCP6dfyfjnF4nCo/s1600/IMG_6781.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
It was a little windy, but I managed to get a picture on my clothes line. I added buttons and bows for embellishments. The quilt is about 52" X 54". I think it will make a great addition to one of her libraries. The goal is to make 5 about the same size so that she can exchange them from one library to another.<br />

These blocks were really fun to make. The blocks measure 12" by 20" with a 5" border. My next quilt will be a large tree with 3-D books for the leaves. Watch for it in the next couple of months. If you have any ideas for simple reading quilts, please let me know. Four of her libraries are K-8, and one is a high school. I would love to hear your suggestions!<br />

Another blog hop is beginning, and I had to stop working on my Delightful Stars Quilt-Along to get something made! Never fear. I will be back on schedule this week.<br />
<br />
I've never been big on ruffles. Mostly, I have added them to pillows. It's not that I find them difficult; I just don't particularly like to do them. That said, I haven't participated in the last couple of hops and wanted to get back in the loop.<br />
<br />
I had bookmarked this apron pattern from <a href="http://morganmoore.typepad.com/one_more_moore/2007/02/valentine_tree__1.html">One More Moore</a> some time ago, thinking it would be really cute to make. I made one, then I altered the pattern to make aprons for my 2 granddaughters. I was happy with the outcome. It is a quick and easy pattern.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLqRHfZrKEinGBzqo0Ay0P3EmZsnG_JIpLfy2KuEBKuPKVdiQugVni3wryfOeTXhQ0dJvgV8Ct6f9R_SqAsGFsOXLkDc26acypBy9MCKsljGxN8D2eYhRo_j5LwCTsxR1zOLthslR7oOs/s1600/IMG_6592.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLqRHfZrKEinGBzqo0Ay0P3EmZsnG_JIpLfy2KuEBKuPKVdiQugVni3wryfOeTXhQ0dJvgV8Ct6f9R_SqAsGFsOXLkDc26acypBy9MCKsljGxN8D2eYhRo_j5LwCTsxR1zOLthslR7oOs/s1600/IMG_6592.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
They are all 3 very bright and will look great on my granddaughters, Julia and Lauren. I am planning on giving the peach and black one to a friend for a benefit. I made a ruffled dish towel to go with it.<br />
<br />
I thought they looked cute on the clothes line, but I am a retired science teacher--today I was subbing at my old school and went looking for a model. I found the perfect one!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQZb9GjBk-Vlw5ZQST9CwszHab5JKAbi2rmwve6dlf_yKoWWsh1ZAcTPsjih8z1mfJo1JBrxD9R7Pp_flYao1tNisoCXPi3Sm_j2W4Wb6dgoOrKwNnMRztiRjUfmYal_JDDHJebhPWZHk/s1600/IMG_6601.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQZb9GjBk-Vlw5ZQST9CwszHab5JKAbi2rmwve6dlf_yKoWWsh1ZAcTPsjih8z1mfJo1JBrxD9R7Pp_flYao1tNisoCXPi3Sm_j2W4Wb6dgoOrKwNnMRztiRjUfmYal_JDDHJebhPWZHk/s1600/IMG_6601.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
Here she is modeling the apron and the dish towel--this is where you can usually find mine.<br />
<br />
Then, I asked her to model all 3 for me. She was very agreeable!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
That's it for this hop! Please visit the other ladies who are ruffling today! Thanks Madame Samm and Amy for all of your time and talent organizing this great hop. Who knows what great project I might find: I just might continue ruffling. I guess making ruffles isn't all that bad. These aprons went without a ruffle--well, with ruffles, but without a hitch? I'm really enjoying the Aiming for Accuracy quilt-along. I'm also going to start Leah Day's quilt-along to improve my fmq. I hope to get started on that today, along with working on a project for quilt club. Oh, and there is that blog hop of Madame Samm's with ruffles that I need to work on! Oh, so much to do, and I am having so much fun doing it. I almost (I did say "almost") don't want winter to end, because there will be less time for sewing!<br />
<br />
I decided that I should start my Aiming for Accuracy lessons by making a practice block using muslin and scraps. My actual quilt is made of batiks, but I think I'm going to like both of them equally. Here is what I have done so far:<br />

I'm so happy that I signed up for the Aiming for Accuracy star quilt this year. I began a quilt for my daughter a couple--well maybe a few--years ago, but it has so many points and tiny pieces that I put it aside for awhile. I'm sure this class is going to give me the confidence I need to finish it. Here are the first 2 blocks, blocks, blocks 18 and 24 of the quilt:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEgE6jTE_om-vZa_S2WLYPhqFoP941VRDn1l81Mm-_9AOld4c3BjLe6_Yfeqn04keTjb8FBtTGuSAakS-HStD0SPEBJiXftuNBYirmR4bMT21dPzxyTEj3xKgz2EpV0cy-3F5BTfasqzQ/s1600/IMG_6500.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEgE6jTE_om-vZa_S2WLYPhqFoP941VRDn1l81Mm-_9AOld4c3BjLe6_Yfeqn04keTjb8FBtTGuSAakS-HStD0SPEBJiXftuNBYirmR4bMT21dPzxyTEj3xKgz2EpV0cy-3F5BTfasqzQ/s1600/IMG_6500.JPG" height="326" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I really like the yellow background. I don't usually do "bright" so this is an adventure for me! Come back in the weeks to follow, and I will post more blocks as I go! Happy quilting!</div>

It is January, and I am very excited about the Quilting Gallery's Quilt-Along. We will be making quilts using star blocks. I started a very difficult star quilt for my daughter, Anna, a few years ago. I really want to finish it. I think it will be much easier after Michele Foster shares her expertise with me on this quilt-along. Anna, it will get finished--I promise. I have my fabrics washed and line-dried.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOyAu80rLahSP-9ocM_XdwTlP-qaV2eDMjkquzjhyphenhyphenteczX_L57snnpCP2Hj7Eg_yjn8o2gl_S2J3FI28AVeB9wd0MQr4f3BFZYWqKrfTFFxLioG9RfGefqh_Ak6qryZCSE2S0EmV9Ir-o/s1600/IMG_6473.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOyAu80rLahSP-9ocM_XdwTlP-qaV2eDMjkquzjhyphenhyphenteczX_L57snnpCP2Hj7Eg_yjn8o2gl_S2J3FI28AVeB9wd0MQr4f3BFZYWqKrfTFFxLioG9RfGefqh_Ak6qryZCSE2S0EmV9Ir-o/s1600/IMG_6473.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Today, I found time to press all of my fabric so that it is ready to go!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfvKSjKoRhKAG40Rt4r6Fwq3OSMczdmVlVk_HdH7p0fXYjuQ1qHb7dJef1dB2GRo5H4v-xFbdmJkSJxn8kwtA9PZoc01scQduoDxIBmOpO2AMlU4AuhibmcFv2biw53ArX6tlg9ononAM/s1600/IMG_6478.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfvKSjKoRhKAG40Rt4r6Fwq3OSMczdmVlVk_HdH7p0fXYjuQ1qHb7dJef1dB2GRo5H4v-xFbdmJkSJxn8kwtA9PZoc01scQduoDxIBmOpO2AMlU4AuhibmcFv2biw53ArX6tlg9ononAM/s1600/IMG_6478.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the first time I have used Magic Sizing. I ordered Best Press along with my background fabric from JoAnn's, but I wanted to get my fabric pressed. I really like the Magic Sizing. It was very easy to use, left my fabrics nice and crisp, and it is much cheaper than the Best Press.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-TLVUkMjjEqYsOVapfzgysJjfWPUfO1WQ0HB80YgMs5-tLFnxPzW7mzqd-BGFfxq2JyqTHOUQVpaTno23Ms7wEMru-anouiZsMvhaEBVTzfXRvzqyL6R-Mb5BtKMDXufGvy3TXnGcaJk/s1600/IMG_6479.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-TLVUkMjjEqYsOVapfzgysJjfWPUfO1WQ0HB80YgMs5-tLFnxPzW7mzqd-BGFfxq2JyqTHOUQVpaTno23Ms7wEMru-anouiZsMvhaEBVTzfXRvzqyL6R-Mb5BtKMDXufGvy3TXnGcaJk/s1600/IMG_6479.JPG" height="234" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I laid out all of my fabrics. I am so fortunate to have great friends. Over half of these fat quarters were gifted to me by my great friend, Jani. I had some others in my stash, and I traded fabrics with my friend, Carol Kussart, (who is also in this quilt-along) so that we would have even more choices. Now the big decision will be which fabrics to use!<br />

I have decided to go out of my comfort zone and use a yellow background. I want this quilt to be nice and bright when it is finished, and I think the yellow is just what it needs. I had to order it, since I need 6.5 yards. I went to JoAnn's and looked at their Kona Swatch Chart to decide which yellow to order. I can't wait until it arrives!<br />
<br />
I was very pleased to receive 2 great quilt patterns for Christmas--2 of my favorite wild flowers.<br />

I'm looking forward to making these this year. Also, I can now share with you more of the Christmas I made because it has all been gifted. I made no-sew hats and scarves for my 2 granddaughters.<br />
